Here are some unidentified pictures. I have nuked by accident the original emails
that accompanied these images. You can just click on the small pictures and it
will immediately come up to the right size - might take a few seconds depending
on your gear and the linespeed.
If you can recognize what these are and who is on them, please let me know
and I will transfer them accordingly to the Main Gallery. Some of
them are fairly obvious, but I'd like to know who sent them to me and anymore
information.
Images Nos 3, 9, 12 show the programme cover, programme
details and entry ticket for the closing ceremony in 1985, attended by
supplied by Tony Lawrence (1953-60) ... thanks Tony.

This gem was sent to me by Ken Ashcroft and refers to the next image ....
Scene: Chemistry room next to the Prefects' lair. Warm day in March, 1956
- afternoon sun beaming on Noel Howard, seated at the front bench. The
16-year-old Ashcroft a few feet away, Mike Norris further to the right.
Onlookers unidentified, but about half a dozen of 6ASc, in various parts of
the room.
"Loose lips sink ships!"
Chatting desultorily with Mike was interrupted by the arrival of The Baz,
who walked behind me, and sat next to Noel. I resorted to daydreaming,
probably as a result of the weekly trip to the newsagents at the foot of
Leece Street to drool over the "Health and Efficiency" magazine display.
Long conversation ensued between Noel and The Baz.
Suddenly the Baz turned and glared at me, "Haven't you got any work to
do ? " I quipped back, "Well, haven't you ? " ... "What do you mean by that ? ",
he snapped.
It was as though I had become two people, one a babbling fool, the other
recoiling in horror as the fool enmeshed himself further, causing The Baz's
jaw to gape wider and wider.
"Well, you're sitting up here chatting away to us, instead of being down
in your office. Don't you worry that some kind of inspector is going to
come in and find that you're not doing your job, and give you the sack ? "
My fate sealed in 15 seconds !!
Speechless, The Baz got up and left.
Immediate remonstrations from the rest of the onlookers, most of them
starting with "What the ……… ? ". As the true impact of what I had done
slowly dawned on me, I jumped up in pursuit - perhaps he'd gone round
the corner to the library. Opening the door, I was petrified by his angry
glare from the top of the steps opposite. He'd obviously been into the
Lab., to ask a few questions of Nicky. He walked down the five wooden
steps till his eyes were level with mine.
"I hear that you wish to become a teacher"
"Yes, sir."
"So you will want to go the University ? "
"Yes, sir"
"Well, don't come and ask me to write a letter of reference !" With that,
he swirled to his left, and all I saw then were the flying sleeves of his
gown as he went downstairs.
No need to draw a veil over the next two days, I can't remember much
of it anyway - I sought advice from Bilge, Nicky, Squinty, Pinhead, and
finally Dusty. Took pen in hand, and wrote down their collected wisdom
on some nice blue Basildon Bond. The following morning, was
summoned to the Office. The Baz had my letter in one hand, his
"Ipcress File" glasses in the other. Gave me the laser-beam glare.
"I have here a letter offering me your apologies"
"Yes sir."
"Hrrrumph, I accept". With a flick of his finger towards the door, he
dismissed me.
This comprises the entire conversation which I had with him in seven
years at the school. If you want to know the sequel, look at the image
below, written one month later. You all know what the rest of the page
looked like !

Geoff Southern provided this photo at Lime Street Station on the 4th April 1959 prior
to the CCF/RAF Section camp at RAF St. Mawgan, Newquay, Cornwall.
Left to Right:- Graham Baker, Geoff Southern, Joe Atherton, Ian Taylor, Rodney Ellis
and Peter Baddams. George Meadows is behind Peter Baddam's right shoulder.
As a matter of pure coincidence, I used to go mountaineering
with Pete Baddams in the late 1960s in the Lake District ... so I (Snellie) was
overjoyed to meet him again on Friday 2nd March, 2001 at the Liobians' Dinner at
Anfield.

This photo (kindly donated by Iain Taylor), was taken 16 Feb. 1960 in Room 10 ? by Keith Berman, then of
17 Rutland Ave., Liverpool 17 and more recently apparently of New York - so rumour has it - and to whom all royalties should be sent - note neg.
# 3221 ! This piece
of Nova Scotian humour escapes me. Value of a moosehead maybe or a lumberjack
for the night ? I guess only Iain Taylor knows the answer.
